The facts of the case are that the culprit Mr.Vangalapudi Vijaya Kumar S/o late Ravidra Rao Aged 23 years R/o Boduppal, Hyderabad studied up to Intermediate at his native place Kaikalur, Krishan Dt. He also did Diploma in Computer Applications (DCA). As he knows car driving as well, initially he worked as Car Driver in Hyderabad, but he had the intention to have a better life. In furtherance of his aspiration he joined in M/s Zoom Technologies, Ameerpet and did MCSC course during 2008. There he learnt computer hacking skills also. Despite that he did get better opportunities. During November 2009 he joined as a worker in S & S Cyber Café, Ram Nagar, Hyderabad. There he installed key logger software (Refog/ Elite) in the computer systems of the cyber café. When ever a customer comes to the cyber café and what ever he types all such information (key strokes including the user name and password) will be collected by the said key logger software discretely and passes it on to the e-mail ID Johnson.keys@gmail.com of the culprit V. Vijay Kumar.
The victim who had HDFC account with Internet Banking facility visited on 29th November 2009 to the said cyber café and did one HDFC account transaction. Thus the culprit could secure the HDFC Bank A/c Internetbanking user name and password of the victim. Upon securing the Internet Banking user name and password the culprit purchased a mobile instrument (Nokia N-97) which is worth Rs 30600/- by making online payment on the victim’s HDFC Account on 3rd December 2009 from Univercell Mobile Vendor, Narayanguda. On 08-12-2009 he sold the mobile instrument for Rs 20,000/- to Mr Shahnawaz Zubair a mobile vender at Shop No 2, Digital Mobiles, Jagdish Market, Abids.
Basing the complaint of the victim’s close relative a case in Cr. No 19/2009 was registered U/s 66 (D) Information Technology (Amendment) Act 2008 and 420 IPC on 18-12-2009 and investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation the culprit was traced through IMEI and mobile number 9704827654. He was arrested in the evening on 18-12-2009 and being remanded to judicial custody today ( 19-12-2009). Shahnawaz Zubair S/o Kabeer Ahmed Age 29 years who purchased the mobile was also arrested and is also being remanded to judicial custody.
Points of Caution:
• The cyber café users must be very careful while using cyber cafés. They should never do Internet Banking transactions from Cyber Café.
• The mobile vendors / customers who purchase used mobile instruments must be careful because as per the new Act (Information Technology (Amendment) Act 2008) receiving/purchasing stolen computers and mobile instruments is also punishable.
• Every cyber café owner should invariably check all his computers and see that no illegal software is installed in their computers. Other wise they will also be penalised as abettors of the offences.
